OVERVIEW

GE Commercial Finance has over $232 billion in assets and is a key partner to businesses in more than 35 countries. They provide lending products, growth capital, revolving lines of credit, equipment leasing, cash flow programs, asset financing, and more, to industries that include health care, manufacturing, infrastructure and equipment, fleet management, communications, construction, energy and aviation.

CHALLENGE

GE Commercial Finance is responsible for protecting a vast amount of financial and other sensitive data, and for running mission-critical applications on its AS/400 and System i5 platform. Because of the nature of the business, security is a major concern for the IT staff, as Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance.

They run a number of platforms in addition to the AS/400 and System i5. To secure such a network mix and manage for security gaps requires consistent processes and significant time and budget resources.

GE Commercial Finance considered PowerTech products because they already were known and respected by the IT organization, and because they enjoy broad support in the AS/400 and System i5 community.

SOLUTION

GE Commercial Finance went with PowerTech because of our reputation and familiarity within the IT organization and because of our broader support within the AS/400 and System i5 community.

The GE Commercial Finance solution included the following PowerTech products:

Network Security — Uses IBM exit point technology to protect iSeries data from unwanted network access, securing critical information from theft, loss, and fraud.
Security Audit — Audits users, objects, system settings, and security events, allowing security personnel to perform comprehensive audits on a regular basis, in a fraction of the time previously required.
Central Admin – Centralized reporting of all security events across multiple servers.

GE Commercial Finance also worked with PowerTech’s security experts and consultants. They helped install and test the system, as well as train the IT group and lead them through the compliance process.
